Yeah, the word itself is somewhat funny (when English is not your native tongue). Under-standing. Standing under what?
Yes, understanding and insight is a product of a process.
Being in touch with something, communicating, inspecting, becoming familiar with the mechanics, functions, purposes, mass and context. And then there are gradients of understanding and also levels of refinement.
At the beginning we understand things in "low resolution" and then it evolves to ever greater/finer levels of definition.
From crude to sublime.
When an area is understood to a high degree there is no heaviness connected to it. (Truth, it is said, has no mass.)
Interestingly in German you say "something is heavy to understand" if you want to say "something is hard to understand".
Hard, heavy... it's a spiritual (red zone) response to an area (or something connected to it) the spirit can not pervade, penetrate, permeate.
The Clean Slate process is a great tool.
